How did we get here?
Hello! I'm M, the founder of Awa-Piko Soap.
My journey into soap-making began when I purchased an expensive, fragrant bar that lasted less than a week in the shower. I craved a soap that would last longer without the hefty ($12+) price tag. And, I wanted something playful that reflected my personal style, while also being gentle on my fickle skin. Plus, I dreamed of designs inspired by my favorite video games, but with a subtle touch. So, I took matters into my own hands and started crafting soaps with video game themes.
My husband appreciated how these soaps were discreet to non-gamers yet recognizable to fans of titles like Dark Souls and Bloodborne. This sparked the idea: “Are there other people out there who'd get a kick out of this?” Thus, Awa-Piko Soap was born. Now, I create a variety of uniquely designed soaps with punny names. It brings me joy to see my 89-year-old grandma request "more of those 'Git Gud Scrub' soaps". I smile when a customer entertains the thought of giving their boss a bar of “Dumpster Fire” as a birthday gift. If these stories make you smile, I’ve definitely got some soap for you!
As for the name “Awa-Piko,” “Awa” means “bubbles” in Japanese, while “Piko” is inspired by the onomatopoeia “piko piko,” reminiscent of the pause sound in Tetris, the first game I ever played on the GameBoy.
